Steampunk charm necklace featuring six bolts with “intrepidity” written on them; a hand holding a circle, representing taking hold of one’s destiny; a note from my friend Betsy in a bottle with sand and red glitter so I can have her support no matter where I go; a flying bird and bird cage, reminding me that I can choose whether to fly by my own will or feel trapped; and the promise ring my husband Nick gave me when we first started dating in 2002, part of a set of two in which he still has the other

Silver, bronze, and gold vintage watch faces with numbers, Roman numerals, and line counters respectively

.: South Korea :.
As I mentioned in my posts about AnachroCon 2011, I’m moving again. Those of you who read my blog last year are probably like, What, didn’t you just move to D.C. six months ago? Yep. So where am I off to this time?
My destination for move #15: South Korea!
How awesome is that?! I’m extremely excited. My husband is already there waiting for me and has told me many amazing stories about the Land of the Morning Calm. Here are just a couple pictures he sent me:

Songtan, South Korea

Suwon World Cup Stadium

Oh yes, there will be Engrish

Cute Engrish galore
In another week or two, the big move will commence and it’ll take some time to get completely settled in. Therefore, I may not post anything for the next few weeks. But I’m adding a few new features to my blog to fill in the down-time.
If you click on “About Gally Lines” above, I do quick updates in it all the time with new info like where I’m visiting, what I’m reading, my Geocaching account, etc. You’ll know when I last updated by looking at the date at the very top of that page. Drop by sometime to leave me messages and I’ll write back when I get a chance. I’ll continue to post regularly whenever I get settled in my new life, like more chapters of Infectnation and pictures so you can see the beauty and modernity of this little country.
And the high-jinks we commit ;D
Thanks to all my badass friends and readers for your support! I’ll be back soon <3

Hey, how very exciting, have fun and see lots of things.
Take Care.
Thanks! Take care of yourself too :] I’ll be back soon with more pics and such.
Haha, that engrish makes me lull!
Girl, I am going to miss you so much!!! And I am going to be so jealous of all the fun things you’ll be up to (like I was when you were in Cali).
I’ll visit you one day!!! xD
Hope you have a smooth time with the move and transitioning to the different culture. :)
Haha, thanks, Betsy! I’ll miss you too! I’ll keep ya updated about my adventures as often as I can ^^ There are so many places I wanna see and I know I’ll have some awesome photos to share. And more chapters of Infectnation ;D I haven’t felt inspired since I got here, so I know moving to Korea will be good for me in many ways <3
Hey Gally long time,
so you’re moving to South Korea now? That should be interesting. So we won’t hear from you much now?
Good to get an update, hope to hear from you soon.
Peace, Mr. Mojo Risin
Hey! Nice to hear from you again.
Getting used to the time change, learning the language and culture, and getting our stuff shipped out there will take some time. My blog will go on as normal — I’ll have more pictures, Infectnation chapters, and other badass stuff to post — but it may be a few weeks or more before I post anything. It’s not like I’m leaving behind this blog permanently or anything, I just need to get settled into my new home and new responsibilities :3
Steampunk, as ever, always makes for good times and good photos ;)
And have fun in South Korea! I do indeed hear it is a beautiful place – that’s quite the move, but I do hope you love it. Looking forward to the new chapters and the new photos.
Thanks a ton! Glad you enjoy the photos :] There’ll be plenty more from Korea!
South Korea? WOW!!
Are you taking the cats with you??
I love the photos here, those top 2 are so professional, they could be in a magazine.
Maybe one day you will end up in the UK on your journeys!!
Keep kicking ass, girl!
Yep, the cats are coming with us :D They’re family, after all!
I’m happy with the photos from Dim Horizons :] The photographer is very nice and the pictures turned out wonderful and professional. Plus his prices are good.
I want to go to the UK! All over Europe actually. Germany is at the top of my list since I have friends there and a lot of my music comes from there.
Thanks so much for stopping by! You’re so badass ;D
Great photos! And all the best with your move to Korea! I really hope you enjoy your stay there.
I miss talking to you too, been a long while. Will definitely visit more often :)
Thank you so much! This move is turning out to be pretty complicated and sometimes I’m just like “AH!” but I know everything’ll be okay and I’ll have a great time in Korea :]
I’ll try to stop by on your page more often! It’s so great to see you here again :] Take care!
Hey girl… was missing you too much to pass this opportunity… so I simply HAD TO drop in here… :)
The pictures totally ROCK!!! The bracelet is like uber cooool!!
And best luck with the big MOVE!! Sounds verrrryyyyy exciting!! :D I am pretty darned sure you will put up loadsa pix once you get there.. hehehe… waiting for them already!
Haha, thanks so much, Kavita! It’s always wonderful to hear from you :]
I’m glad you like these! I can’t wait to share more of Korea with everyone. I know I’ll love it there. There’s so much to see and do! Korea’s famous for its mountains, hot springs, and other such amazing sites. Oh, and bungee-jumping! I might have to take part in a little of that action XD
Welcome to the ROK! So, I stumbled onto your blog while looking for a place to buy gears and whatnot for a steampunk costume I’m putting together for halloween and I was wondering if you’d happened on anything like that since you’ve been here. I’d appreciate any tips you might be able to hand out. Thanks! You can catch me at simulacra_worldwide@hotmail.com. This place is awesome, so have some fun!
Hey, thanks for visiting my blog! So far, I’ve only found a handful of stores around Seoul with “alternative” clothing, and they’re mostly punk for (short/thin) guys or goth/lolita for girls, nothing steampunk. I think hardly anyone here even knows about it. Your best bet is to order clothing and other steampunk parts from the U.S.
Try googling for steampunk clothing and look through the online stores. Unfortunately, I don’t really have any recommendations for clothing because everyone I know who does steampunk makes their own clothes. This place has really great accessories, including steampunk, but they can get expensive: http://alchemygothic.com/
If there’s a crafts store near you, see what they have in terms of vintage jewelry and try modding them. I made the bracelet out of random parts I found. I believe I’ve seen someone on Etsy selling tubs of random clock gears and watch faces.
